Members of the DeSales University Athletics Community,
Â
I want to reach out to provide you with an update regarding DeSales Athletics in light of the ongoing national emergency due to the COVID-19 outbreak, especially as we are mindful of so many people experiencing hardship and suffering at this time.
Â
The University has moved to an online learning model for classes and early this week the MAC, following the lead of the NCAA, has cancelled the spring season for all sports. While this decision is extremely difficult for our spring athletes, particularly our senior athletes, given the information we currently have, it is the correct decision. The health and well-being of all our students and our staff has to be our first priority.Â
Â
Nearly all of our coaches and athletic staff will be operating on a "work from home" basis until further notice. However, coaches will continue to remotely connect with their teams to monitor academic progress and assist in any way possible.
Â
This is an unprecedented time in our history. There is no "playbook" or guide for this. But together, as a team, we will pull through and become stronger and better because of the adversity.
Â
We are proud of our spring athletes. All year they have been preparing and working for an opportunity to compete with their teammates.  Win or lose, we all want our athletic seasons - or careers - to end on the field in competition. It is truly unfortunate that this will not happen.
Â
The cancelation of our spring season is especially difficult for our seniors. We deeply regret that their careers ended this way. Over the next several weeks we plan to honor all 38 of our spring senior student-athletes with individual profiles through our website and social media platforms. Perhaps, in time, there will be an appropriate way to gather and celebrate their accomplishments.
Â
We thank and honor the following DeSales senior athletes – once a Bulldog, always a Bulldog.
