Women's Basketball Wins Fourth Straight, 71-58, over Stevens

Hoboken, NJ (December 8, 2021) - The DeSales University women's basketball team won its fourth straight game to stay unbeaten in the MAC Freedom in a 71-58 win over Stevens on Wednesday evening.

The Basics
  • Final Score: DeSales - 71, Stevens - 58
  • Records: DeSales (5-3, 3-0 MAC Freedom); Stevens (7-2, 2-1 MAC Freedom)
  • The Bulldogs have now won four straight after starting the season 1-3. 
  • DeSales has won four straight in the series and improve to 6-2 all-time vs. the Ducks.
How it Happened
  • After DeSales scored the first bucket of the game, the Ducks took their only lead on a 3 in the early going.
  • The Bulldogs answered with a 9-0 run to claim an 11-3 advantage on a three-point play from sophomore Amelia Saunders and led by seven (17-10) after one quarter of play.
  • A triple from junior Megan Bealer opened the second quarter and DSU led by double digits throughout the second frame, enjoying a 37-27 lead into the halftime locker room.
  • The lead was still 10 at the 6:29 mark of the third quarter when the Bulldogs put it away with a 12-0 run to take a 55-33 lead and never looked back in the fourth quarter.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • Senior Averi Jordan led all scorers with 22 points and added six rebounds, two assists, two steals, and two blocks.
  • Bealer and Saunders each finished with 14 points as the only other double digit scorers.
  • Sophomore Lindsey Welsh had seven points and eight boards.
  • Junior Maria Newsome finished with six dimes.
  • Sophomore Mikaela Reese had eight points, six rebounds, and four blocks.
For the Foes
  • The Ducks got 15 points from Elissa Nsenkyire and Keeley Coval (daughter of DeSales MBB coach, Scott Coval).
Inside the Box Score
  • The Bulldogs defense held Stevens to just 30.6 percent shooting for the game.
  • DeSales out-rebounded Stevens, 44-41.
  • DSU shot 42.6 percent from the field and was 6-for-12 (50%) from outside the arc.
