Men's Track & Field Returns to Action at Moravian Indoor Invitational

Bethlehem, PA (January 20, 2024) - The DeSales University men's track & field team made their return after a month-long break competing at the Moravian University Indoor Invitational at Lehigh University on Saturday.

DeSales had five more individual qualifiers for the MAC Indoor Championships, bringing. the team total to 17 after just two meets.

Starting in the long jump, senior Xavier Phoenix finished third place overall, with a jump of 6.67m. Graduate student Sidney Walker also jumped 6.08m, good for 17th overall, to qualify for the MAC Championships in his debut for the Bulldogs. First-year Weston Simak (14th overall) set a personal best with a mark of 6.12m.
 
In the triple jump, Phoenix took second place with a mark of 13.83m, while Simak took seventh with a jump of 12.72m.
 
Sophomore Jonathan Eudja set another massive personal best in the weight throw, finishing ninth overall with a throw 13.80m.
 
In the 5000-meters, senior Nick Manidis had an impressive performance hitting an indoor personal-best with a time of 15:43.86 (13th overall). Graduate student Brian Bruno then finished 17th overall with a time of 16:02.34. Both efforts qualified these athletes for the MAC Indoor Championships in the 5K.
 
In the 60-meter dash, senior Vajon Wilson set a personal best by a hair out of the third heat, with a time of 7.29. With this effort, Wilson qualified for the MAC Championships in the 60-meter and moved up to fifth on the all-time records. Wilson also finished 12th overall in the 200-meter dash, with a time of 23.87. Senior Logan Berner placed eighth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.17.
 
Making his track & field debut, first-year Jozef Callano finished 10th overall finishing with a MAC Championship qualifying time of 2:04.45.
 
Senior Kyle Dunbar finished eighth overall in the 400-meter, with a time of 52.92 to place fourth in the first heat.
 
In the shot put, sophomore Jacob Schaeffer set another personal best with a mark of 12.10m, which was good for 20th place.
 
Lastly, in the 3000-meter, sophomore Davis Trump hit the MAC qualifying standard with a time of 9:19.59, good for 13th overall. In the same heat, senior Matt Chylack set a personal best with a time of 9:45.03 to place 19th overall.
 
The Bulldogs will be back in action next weekend at the Muhlenberg College Invitational on Friday, January 27.
