Allentown, PA (January 26, 2024) - The DeSales University men's track & field team continued preparation for the MAC Championships competing at the Muhlenberg College Invitational on Friday evening.
In the 55-meter dash, seniors
Kyle Dunbar and
Logan Berner finished first and second place overall. Dunbar won the first heat of the prelims by a landslide with a time of
6.61. Berner then won the sixth heat by a wide margin with a time of
6.63. In the finals, both won the heat neck and neck with times of
6.56 and
6.60, respectively. These efforts qualified both athletes for the AARTFC Regional Championship in the 60-meter after a time conversion.
Sophomore heptathlete
Tyler McCulloch had a solid showing across four events, most notably running a MAC qualifying time of
6.83 in the 55-meter, notching first place in the second heat of prelims and good for eighth place overall. McCulloch then jumped
5.23m in the long jump (sixth place) and threw
10.83m in the shot put (11
th place). He rounded out the day by running a
2:55.36 (seventh place) in the 800-meter. All were personal best performances.
In the triple jump, first-year
Lens Demosthene set a personal best with a mark of 12.55m, good for second place overall. Then, in the long jump, first-year
Nicholas Wolff set a personal best with a jump of
5.69m to notch fourth place.
In the shot put, sophomore
Jacob Schaeffer set yet another personal best with a mark of
13.26m, which was good for second place overall. Graduate student
Nick Chinn also finished sixth in the event with a throw of
11.58m, just short of the MAC qualifying standard.
Sophomore thrower
Giovanni Wellington had an impressive showing in the 400-meter, setting a personal best with a time of
61.97, finishing seventh place overall. Prior to this, he placed seventh in the shot put with a throw of
11.52m.
First-year
Weston Simak made his debut in the high jump and cleared
1.68m to come in fourth place, falling just a mark short of the MAC qualifying standard of
1.73m.
In the mile, graduate student
Tom Greve set a personal best with a time of
4:45.86, finishing second place overall. First-years
Andrew Sidorski and
Chase Curry also made their debuts with times of
5:15.33 (fifth place) and
5:28.35 (seventh place), respectively.
Lastly, in the 800-meter, first-year
Jaden Parrish made his debut, finishing second overall with a time of
2:15.51.
After a solid tune-up, the Bulldogs will be back in action next weekend – with some athletes competing at the New York Armory for the NYC Division III Invitational on Friday, February 2 and others competing in the DeSchriver Invitational on Sunday, February 4.
