East Stroudsburg, PA (February 4, 2024) - The DeSales University men's track & field continued its preparation for the MAC Indoor Championships with some impressive performances at the DeSchriver Invitational at East Stroudsburg University on Sunday.
Starting with the 5000-meter, graduate student
Tom Greve placed fourth overall, setting an indoor personal best of
16:05.91. Senior
Dean Ricco finished close behind in sixth place overall with a time of
16:25.15. Both efforts qualified these athletes for the MAC Championships in the event.
Then, in the 55-meter dash, sophomore decathlete
Tyler McCulloch placed 20
th overall and nearly set a personal best with a time of
6.83. McCulloch then competed in the 200-meter, placing ninth overall with a season best of
24.10.
Moving to the mile, sophomore
Patrick Smith set a personal best with a time of
5:15.18.
For the 800-meter run, graduate student
Carl Tyce made an unattached appearance, taking first place overall in the event with a time of
1:59.01. Sophomore
John Murphy also set a personal best in the event with a time of
2:15.46 while placing seventh overall.
Then, in the 3000-meter run, sophomore
Antonio Rinaldi led the way with a personal best of
9:57.17 (10
th overall). First-years
Jaden Parrish (9:59.01) and
Andrew Sidorski (10:07.95) also made impressive debuts in the event, finishing 12
th and 14
th place overall respectively.
In the field events, first-year
Weston Simak set a personal best in the high jump with a mark of
1.63m to finish in sixth. Simak's jump was a qualifier for the MAC Championships in the event. He then took third in the triple jump, setting a personal best with a mark of
12.92m.
Then, in the long jump, graduate student
Sidney Walker set a season best with a jump of
6.48m. Moving to the triple jump,
Peter Skulski set a PR with a mark of
11.30m, good for 15
th place.
In the pole vault, sophomore
Vincenzo Taormina set a season best with a mark of 3.15m, goof for fourth place overall.
Moving to the throws, graduate student
Nick Chinn set a season best with a mark of
11.67m, good for 15
th place. With this throw, Chinn qualified for the MAC Championship.
Lastly, in the weight throw, sophomore
Jonathan Eudja set yet another personal best with a throw of
14.08m to come in fourth place overall. Fellow sophomore
Giovanni Wellington then followed up his personal best on Friday night with another throw of
13.17m to take ninth place overall.
After qualifying 3 more athletes, the Bulldogs have 23 athletes qualified for the Middle Atlantic Conference championship to be held a few weeks at Alvernia.
After a very busy weekend, the Bulldogs will take some time to recover for the final meet of the regular season at the Marc Denault Invitational hosted by Cornell University on Saturday, February 17.
