Chester, PA (March 30, 2024) - The DeSales University men's track & field team competed at the Danny Curran Invitational hosted by Widener University on Saturday.
Beginning in the long jump, senior
Xavier Phoenix placed fifth overall with a jump of
6.83m to qualify for the AARTFC regional championship. Graduate student
Sidney Walker jumped
6.48m to take 11
th overall and qualify for the Middle Atlantic Conference championship. Walker took sole possession of third place on the all-time list with his jump. First-year
Weston Simak also took 18
th place with a jump of
6.17m.
Over in the hammer throw, sophomore
Jonathan Eudja set another massive personal best, finishing sixth overall with a throw of
45.22m. Eudja is now tenth place on the all-time list in the event.
Kicking things off on the track, senior
Ben Phillippy led the way in the 1500-meter, finishing 35
th overall with a time of
4:18.28 (35
th overall). Graduate student
Tom Greve set a personal best in
4:18.43 to take 37
th overall. First-year
Chase Curry also set a personal best with a time of 4:55.05. (64
th overall).
During the 100-meter dash, senior
Logan Berner finished eighth overall with a season best time of
11.01. Fellow senior
Kyle Dunbar also took 13
th overall with a time of
11.16 to qualify for the MAC championship. First-years
Bryce Guthier (45
th overall –
11.70) and
Nicholas Wolff (89
th overall –
12.97) also set big personal bests.
In the high jump, Simak returned with a personal best jump of
1.74m, inching closer to the qualifying standard.
Over at the javelin throw, sophomore
Dane Watson placed 14
th overall with a throw of
46.92m. Sophomore
Peter Skulski then placed 19
th overall with a throw of
43.50m.
For the 800-meter, senior
Shane Artis took sixth place overall with a big personal best in a time of
1:57.94. Greve came back to set another personal best in the event with a time of
2:07.75 (49
th overall). Sophomore
Jordan Gallo also set a massive personal best (
2:16.70 – 64
th overall).
Lastly, in the 200-meter, Berner returned with a massive personal best of
22.35 (11
th overall) to tie for fifth overall on the all-time list. Phoenix also returned for a personal best with a time of
23.05, taking 29
th overall and qualifying for the conference championship. Guthier then made his debut in the event, placing 52
nd with a time of
23.96.
The Bulldogs now have 19 athletes qualified for the conference championship back at Widener University in early May.
After another successful showing, the Bulldogs will bring a full squad to Muhlenberg College next Saturday, April 6.
