Men's Track & Field Closes Regular Season at Penn Relays and Lehigh

Philadelphia/Bethlehem, PA (April 26-27, 2024) - This weekend, the DeSales University men's outdoor track & field closed out the final weekend of the regular season competing at the Penn Relays on Friday and the Carol and John Covert Classic at Lehigh University on Saturday.

Starting on Friday, the 4x100-meter relay team that set the school record last week took a trip to the Penn Relays at the historic Franklin Field. The team consisting of first-year Colin Marsh and seniors Kyle Dunbar, Logan Berner, and Vajon Wilson took on the College Men's 4x200 Championship of America, taking 19th place overall with a time of 1:28.24.

Meanwhile on Friday afternoon, several throwing events took place at Lehigh University at the Carol and John Covert Classic. Starting in the hammer throw, sophomore Jonathan Eudja took fifth place overall with yet another massive personal best of 51.26m. The throw moved Eudja up to sixth on the all-time list and qualified him for the AARTFC Outdoor Regional Championship.

Then, in the javelin, first-year Cameron Williams set a massive personal best with a throw of 51.07m to secure seventh place overall. The effort qualified him for the Middle Atlantic Conference Championship next week and the AARTFC Outdoor Regional Championship. First-year Kaden Issa also set a personal best with a throw of 35.10m (19th overall).

The Bulldogs returned to Lehigh for more events on Saturday afternoon. Beginning in the 1500-meter, sophomore Patrick Smith set a personal best with a time of 4:27.77, placing 20th overall.

Then in the 110-meter hurdles, junior Sam Estherson set a personal best with a time of 15.12, good for third overall. With the new personal best, Estherson improved upon the third fastest time in school history and is creeping up on the number two spot.

In the 400-meter, junior Josh Deremer made his debut in the event, taking 12th overall with a time of 52.69. Sophomore Tyler McCulloch also set a personal best, placing 13th overall with a time of 52.71.

For the 100-meter dash, sophomore Braeden DeGrazia set a personal best with a time of 11.91 (15th overall).  In the 800-meter, sophomore John Murphy set a personal best by finishing in a time of 2:13.06 (40th overall)

In the long jump, first-year Javell McMichael set a personal best with a mark of 5.29m (16th overall).

Over at the throws for the discus, junior Jacob Schaeffer placed 11th overall with a personal best throw of 40.78m. Graduate student Nick Chinn set a season best with a throw of 36.82m (18th overall), qualifying him for the MAC Championship in the event. Sophomore Giovanni Wellington set a personal best with a throw of 35.85m (19th overall) to qualify for the MAC Championship. Sophomore Christopher Landau also set a personal best to take 22nd overall with a throw of 34.46m.

Lastly, in the triple jump, sophomore Peter Skulski set a personal best with a mark of 11.61m (ninth overall) to qualify for the MAC Championship in the event.

After an impressive regular season, the Bulldogs will bring a squad of 36 athletes to the MAC Championship next week – the largest team in school history. The conference championship will begin at Widener University on Thursday, May 1 at 2:30 PM with the hammer throw, followed by the 4x800-meter relay and the 10,000-meter run.
