Center Valley, PA (March 30, 2008) – The DeSales University softball team earned an important doubleheader sweep of Freedom Conference foe FDU-Florham winning game one, 7-6, and game two, 12-0, behind a five-inning complete-game no-hitter from freshman Jen Lococo (Easton, PA/Freedom) in the second game on Sunday afternoon.

The sweep improves DeSales to 11-5 overall and more importantly 3-1 in the Freedom Conference, while the Devils saw their 11-game winning streak come to an end as they fall to 12-6 overall and 2-2 in the Freedom.

In the opener the Bulldogs jumped out early scoring four times in the first inning to take a 4-0 lead. After two Devils errors extended the inning and allowed the first two runs to score junior Kelly Moran (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) hit a two-run home run to centerfield to finish of the rally.

DSU added one run in the second inning on a solo home run from freshman Kristen Schultz (Laurys Station, PA/Parkland) and scored two more in the fourth on RBI hits from freshman Kylie Fehnel (Nazareth, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) and junior Amanda Kensecki (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) to take a 7-1 lead.

The Devils fought back scoring once in the fifth, twice in the sixth and scored two runs in the seventh to make it a 7-6 game. FDU had the bases loaded with two outs with a chance to tie or take the lead but freshman Larissa Tenley (Sinking Spring, PA/Conrad Weiser) was able to record the final out on a ground ball to third base to record her first career save.

Sophomore Kristen Cybularz (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Carroll) earned the win as she went 5.1 innings allowing nine hits and four runs. Tenley recorded the first save of the season for DeSales with 1.2 innings of relief allowing two runs.

Moran finished the game 3-for-3 with two RBI's and Kensecki also had three hits and an RBI. Junior Maddie Roxandich (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) had two hits as seven different players scored runs in a balanced offensive attack.

The second game was all DeSales as Lococo did the work on the mound and the Bulldog hitters had 10 hits over four innings to record the 12-0 win. Lococo walked three and struck out four for her first career collegiate no-hitter. She pitched out of a 2nd-3rd, one out jam in the second inning after a DSU error, walk and wild pitch moved runners into scoring position with just one down, but that was the only time all game a runner had advanced past first base.

At the plate Fehnel had the big blow, a grand slam home-run in the second inning finishing off a five-run rally. The salami was her first career collegiate home run and gave DSU a 5-0 lead. The Bulldogs added a solo run in the third on an RBI single from sophomore Kyra Monarek (Allentown, PA/Parkland) and put six tallies on the board in the fourth. Junior Jamie Pfitzenmayer (Annandale, NJ/Hunterdon Central) had a two-RBI single, while freshman Kate Steiner (Walnutport, PA/Northampton), Monarek and Roxandich each had RBI hits in the six-run fourth.

Roxandich finished with two hits and two RBI's, Steiner had two hits and two runs scored and Pfitzenmayer also had two hits and added two runs scored and two RBI's to lead the offensive attack in the game two win.

The Bulldogs will return to action on Tuesday, April 1st when they travel to local rival Moravian College for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 3:00 pm.
