BOX SCORE (Game 2)
York, PA (April 13, 2008) – The DeSales University softball team allowed just two earned runs over two games and some timely hitting in the top of the eighth inning in game two earning a split of a non-conference doubleheader on Sunday afternoon at York College.
The Bulldogs move to 16-8 overall with the split, while the Spartans go to 22-8 on the season. In the day's opener York plated runs in the first and fourth innings to take a 2-0 lead and threatened to score a few more in the sixth but freshman Larissa Tenley (Sinking Spring, PA/Conrad Weiser) pitched out of trouble as the game moved to the seventh.
In the seventh, freshman Kylie Fehnel (Nazareth, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) knocked in junior Jamie Pfitzenmayer (Annandale, NJ/Hunterdon Central) with a two-out triple but was stranded at third as the Spartans escaped with the win.
Junior Amanda Kensecki (Bethlehem. PA/Liberty) and freshman Kate Steiner (Walnutport, PA/Northampton) each had two hits in the game one loss. Tenley pitched well in relief of sophomore Kristen Cybularz (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Carroll), who took the loss. Tenley lasted five innings allowing five hits and one run in relief.
In the second game both starting pitchers were terrific as both teams were held to two hits each over the first seven innings as the game was scoreless entering the eighth inning. With each team starting with a runner on second base, the Bulldogs struck first in the top of the eighth when Pfitzenmayer tripled home junior Kelly Moran (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) and later scored on a squeeze bunt by fellow junior Maddie Roxandich (Bethelehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic).
In the bottom of the inning, the Spartans scored the inherited runner on a Bulldog error and with runners on first and second and just one out, Lococo retired the final two batters to preserve the win. Lococo allowed just three hits and one unearned run, while striking out three to improve to 8-3 on the season.
DSU returns to action on Thursday, April 17th when they travel to Kean University for another non-conference doubleheader beginning at 3:00 pm.
