Center Valley, PA (April 5, 2008) – Junior Jamie Pfitzenmayer (Annandale, NJ/Hunterdon Central) totaled five hits and six RBI's leading the DeSales University softball team to a sweep of Freedom Conference pre-season favorite, King's College, 10-5 and 5-1, in a Freedom Conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Betzler Fields.

The Bulldogs, who were picked last in the Freedom Conference pre-season poll, are off to a flying start as they improve to a 13-5 overall and 5-1 in the Freedom Conference, while the Lady Monarchs fall to 9-5 overall and 0-2 in the Freedom.

In the opener DSU took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning and increased its lead to 8-1 with two more runs in the fourth inning and four in the top of the fifth inning. Pfitzenmayer hit her first of two home runs in the fourth and freshman Kristen Schultz (Laurys Station, PA/Parkland) had a two-RBI single in the fifth followed by a two-RBI double from Pfitzenmayer.

The Lady Monarchs cut the lead to 8-5 with four runs of their own in the bottom of the fifth inning, but another two-run home-run from Pfitzenmayer in the seventh pushed the lead to 10-5, providing the final tally.

Sophomore Kristen Cybularz (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Carroll) earned the win pitching four innings allowing five runs before freshman Larissa Tenley (Sinking Spring, PA/Conrad Weiser) earned her second save of the season allowing just two hits and no runs over the final three innings to preserve the win.

In the second game, DSU scored twice in the third and twice in the sixth to open up a 4-0 lead and freshman Jen Lococo (Easton, PA/Freedom) did the rest pitching another complete-game to earn her sixth win of the season. Lococo scattered seven hits over seven innings allowing just one run.

Pfitzenmayer started the rally in the third inning with a lead-off single and later scored on an RBI sacrifice bunt from sophomore Kerri Andrews (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic). In the sixth, junior Maddie Roxandich (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) had the big blow, a two-out, two-RBI single plating freshman Kate Steiner (Walnutport, PA/Northampton) and Pfitzenmayer.

Pfitzenmayer finished the day going 5-for-6 with four runs scored and six RBI's. Roxandich had three hits and two RBI's and Kensecki finished with four hits to lead the Bulldogs offensive attack.

The Bulldogs scheduled game for Sunday afternoon with the University of Scranton was postponed this morning due to Scranton having to play a conference doubleheader on Sunday so DSU will return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Alvernia College for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 3:00 pm.
