Reading, PA (April 8, 2008) – A few days after scoring 15 runs in a sweep of King's College the DeSales University softball team found runs harder to come by scoring just one and being swept in a doubleheader at Alvernia College in non-Conference action on Tuesday afternoon.
The Bulldogs five-game winning streak comes to an end with the losses as they fall to 13-7 overall, while Alvernia improves to 19-6 overall with the sweep.
In game one, DSU took a 1-0 lead as junior Kelly Moran (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) singled and later scored on an RBI single from freshman Kristen Schultz (Laurys Station, PA/Parkland). The Crusaders scored two unearned runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 2-1 lead and DSU was unable to cross home plate over the final five innings.
Sophomore Kristen Cybularz (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Carroll) suffered the loss despite pitching well allowing just three hits and two unearned runs in three innings. Freshman Larissa Tenley (Sinking Spring, PA/Conrad Weiser) also pitched well going three innings allowing no hits and walking just one, while striking out two.
In the second game, DSU managed just two hits, a single from freshman Kylie Fehnel (Nazareth, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) and sophomore Kerri Andrews (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic). Alvernia scored the lone runs of the game, two on a two-out, two-RBI single from R. Sorrentino to provide the difference in the game.
Freshman Jen Lococo (Easton, PA/Freedom) pitched well once again scattering nine hits and allowing just two hits to fall to 6-3 on the season.
The Bulldogs will return to action on Saturday when they return home to host Wilkes University in a Freedom Conference doubleheader beginning at Noon.
