St. David's, PA (March 12, 2009) – The DeSales University softball team opened its Freedom Conference season on a chilly Thursday afternoon and had to settle for a doubleheader split with Eastern University dropping game one, 4-3 (8 Innings), before rebounding with a 12-2 win in game two.

In the first game, DSU (7-3, 1-1 Freedom) started quickly opening up a 3-1 lead thru three innings after a two-RBI double from senior Kelly Moran (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) in the first inning and senior Amanda Kensecki (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) came around to score in the third frame on a passed ball.

Eastern tied the game with solo runs in the sixth and seventh inning and eventually won the game in the bottom of the eighth inning when the Eagles pushed across the winning run after a lead-off double from Karen Hertzog.

In the second game, the Bulldogs broke open a scoreless game in the third inning with nine runs. Sophomore Kristin Schultz (Laurys Station, PA/Parkland) hit a solo home run to start the rally and freshman Christine Petrilla (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) also had an RBI hit during the rally as DSU scored its nine runs on six walks and one hit batter.

DSU added three more runs on RBI hits from senior Jamie Pfitzenmayer (Annandale, NJ/Hunterdon Central) and junior Kyra Monarek (Allentown, PA/Parkland) in the fifth inning as sophomore Jen Lococo (Easton, PA/Easton) earned her fourth win of the season allowing just six hits and two runs over five innings for DeSales.

DeSales returns to action on Saturday, March 14th when they host another Freedom Conference foe, Misericordia University, in the first home doubleheader of the year beginning at 1:00 pm.
