Morrissey Pitches DeSales to Doubleheader Split with Misericordia

Center Valley, PA (March 14, 2009) – Freshman Katie Morrissey (Lanoka Harbor, NJ/Lacey Township) tossed her first career shutout allowing just three hits and striking out 10 in game two leading the DeSales University softball team to a doubleheader sweep with Freedom Conference foe Misericordia University on Saturday afternoon.

The Cougars (7-5, 1-1 Freedom) took game one 6-2 with four runs in the top of the seventh inning before the Bulldogs (8-4, 2-2 Freedom) rallied to take game two, 3-0, behind Morrissey.

In the opener, DSU mustered just four hits but fought back to tie the game at two in the bottom of the sixth inning when senior Kelly Moran (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) walked and eventually scored on a wild pitch. MU rallied in the top of the seventh scoring four times on three hits and two Bulldog errors to earn the win. Senior Amanda Kensecki (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) had two of the four hits in the loss.

In the second game, Morrissey was outstanding on the mound, striking out six straight Cougars at one point. Kensecki came thru at the plate once again with two more hits and two RBI's in the game two win. Sophomore Jen Lococo (Easton, PA/Easton) also had an RBI hit and senior Jamie Pfitzenmayer (Annandale, NJ/Hunterdon Central) was 2-for-3 with a run scored in the second contest.

The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday, March 21st when they travel to Wilkes University for another Freedom Conference doubleheader beginning at 1:00 pm.
