Morrissey Tosses Bulldogs to Another Doubleheader Split

Senior Jamie Pfitzenmayer had four hits including two doubles and a triple in the doubleheader on Sunday.
Annville, PA (March 22, 2009) – Freshman Katie Morrissey (Lanoka Harbor, NJ/Lacey Township) tossed a four-hit complete-game shutout in game one leading the DeSales University softball to a split with Lebanon Valley College in a non-conference doubleheader on Sunday afternoon.

Morrissey continued her dominant pitching allowing just four hits and striking out three as she improved to 5-2 on the year in the game one win. DSU scored just one run on the day but it was all it needed in the first game as senior Jamie Pfitzenmayer (Annandale, NJ/Hunterdon Central) had three hits (two doubles) and knocked in the lone run in the opener. Junior Kerri Andrews (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) had two hits in the game one win.

In the second game, DSU had just five hits and was unable to cross home plate as the Flying Dutchmen earned a split with a 5-0 win over the Bulldogs. Pfitzenmayer led the offensive attack once again with a triple and Andrews also had a hit. Freshman Christine Petrilla (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) took the loss lasting four innings allowing five hits and three earned runs.

DSU will return to action on Thursday, March 26th when they travel to Montclair State University for another non-conference doubleheader beginning at 3:00 pm.
