Center Valley, PA (April 25, 2009) – The DeSales University softball team settled for a doubleheader split with Delaware Valley College on Saturday afternoon, dropping game one, 3-2, before rebounding with an 8-5 win in game two and will enter the Freedom Conference playoffs as the #2 seed beginning next Friday at Wilkes University.

The Bulldogs (23-11, 11-5 Freedom) finish in a tie for first place with Misericordia University but lose the tiebreaker to the Cougars and will be the #2 seed in the post-season tournament. DSU's first round opponent will be the same Aggies (14-14, 10-6 Freedom) that they played today. The Freedom Conference tournament will once again be played at Wilkes University's field on Friday and Saturday. DSU will take on the Aggies on Friday in the second game of the day at approximately 1:00 pm. A complete schedule for the tournament will be made available mid-week in a post-season preview on the DeSales web site.

On Saturday, the Bulldogs dropped the opener after DVC scored twice in the sixth inning to tie the game at two and once more in the seventh on a wild pitch with two outs to take home a 3-2 win. DSU led 1-0 in the first when senior Jamie Pfitzenmayer (Annandale, NJ/Hunterdon Central) tripled to lead off the game and came around to score on a bloop single from sophomore Jen Lococo (Easton, PA/Freedom). The Bulldogs went ahead 2-0 in the third inning when senior Amanda Kensecki (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) doubled and scored one batter later on another RBI single from Lococo.

Lococo finished with three hits and both RBI's, while Kensecki had two hits in the game one loss. Freshman Katie Morrissey (Lanoka Harbor, NJ/Lacey Township) took the loss allowing three runs on six hits over seven innings.

In the second game, DeSales fell behind early as the Aggies scored twice in the first inning. DSU rallied with four runs in the second inning as senior Kelly Moran (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) led off with a solo home run, Pfitzenmayer knocked home two runs with a double and later scored on an RBI hit from junior Kerri Andrews (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic).

DVC got within one with a run in the third, but DSU went up 6-3 with two tallies in the fourth on an RBI double from Lococo. The two teams traded runs in the fifth and sixth innings and junior Kristen Cybularz (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Carroll) gave the Bulldogs a big lift out of the bullpen, tossing two shutout innings to close the door on Delaware Valley and earn her first save of the season.

Lococo had three more hits in the second game, giving her six hits on the day and earned the win on the mound, scattering nine hits over five innings and allowing four earned runs. Cybularz pitched the final two innings and allowed just one hit for her first save. Pfitzenmayer continued to swing a hot bat with two more hits and two RBI's in the game two win, while Moran (two hits and a homer), and Andrews and sophomore Kristin Schultz (Laurys Station, PA/Parkland) each scored twice in the win.

DeSales does return to action tomorrow when they host York College in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at Noon.
