Center Valley, PA (April 9, 2009) – Senior Kristin Schultz (Laurys Station, PA/Parkland) went a combined 6-for-7 leading the DeSales University softball team to a non-conference split with Rutgers-Camden as its comeback attempt in game two fell just short after recording an 8-1 win in the first game on Thursday afternoon. The Bulldogs improve to 18-10 with the split, while the Scarlet Raptors move to 18-8 overall.

In the opener, DSU scored in each of the first three innings and that proved to be enough as the Bulldogs cruised to an 8-1 win. An RBI ground out from sophomore Jen Lococo (Easton, PA/Freedom) got things started in the bottom of the first inning and DeSales scored three times in the bottom of the second inning when senior Kelly Moran (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) hit a solo home run and seniors Maddie Roxandich (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) and Amanda Kensecki (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) each drove in runs.

In the third, the Bulldogs scored four times thanks in part to another RBI hit from Roxandich and two-out, three-RBI double from junior Kerri Andrews (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic). Freshman Katie Morrissey (Lanoka Harbor, NJ/Lacey Township) earned her 10th win of the season allowing just four hits, one run, while striking out eight.

In the second game, DSU's defense failed them as they committed two costly errors, which turned into four unearned runs and its comeback attempt fell just short as it left runners on first and second in the bottom of the seventh inning.

DSU erased a 1-0 deficit when Schultz singled home two runs in the fourth inning and pushed one more run across in the seventh after Schultz tripled to lead off the frame and sophomore pinch-runner Sharon Yudt (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) came across to score on a ground out from Lococo. Lococo was the hard-luck loser as she went the distance scattering 10 hits and not allowing an earned run.

On the day senior Jamie Pfitzenmayer (Annandale, NJ/Hunterdon Central) had three hits, all in game one, Schultz finished with six hits and two RBI's, Andrews had three hits and knocked in three runs, and Moran had five hits and hit her team-leading second home run of the season.

DSU returns to action in one week when they host Elizabethtown College in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 3:00 pm. For those unable to attend you can follow the game's progress via LIVE Stats for both games.
