St. David's, PA (September 16, 2009) - In a rematch of last year's Freedom Conference championship match, the DeSales University volleyball team fell to Eastern University, 3-0 (25-20, 25-10, 25-21), in the Freedom Conference opener for both teams on Wednesday evening.

The Bulldogs fall to 4-5, 0-1 Freedom, while #23 Eastern improves to 6-1, 1-0 Freedom.  EU had 51 kills on the night, while DeSales tallied just 25 kills, but only had six hitting errors.

Leading the Bulldogs was sophomore Lauren Hickey (Ridley Park, PA/Ridley) with a team-high seven kills.  Senior Jen Mellon (Media, PA/Penncrest) added six kills, junior Kylie Fehnel (Nazareth, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) had four kills and 10 digs, senior Kerri Andrews (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) finished with 14 digs, and freshman Justine McNulty (Collegeville, PA/Methacton) finished with 22 assists.

DeSales returns to action on Saturday when they travel down to St. Mary's College (MD) for a tri-match with Goucher College.
