Bulldogs Finish Spring Trip with Two Wins

Senior Kate Steiner batted .560 and had multiple hits in five of six games during the Bulldogs' spring trip.

Clermont, FL (March 11, 2011) – The DeSales University softball team dodged some rough weather up and down the East Coast on Wednesday and Thursday to fit in two of its four scheduled games, recording wins in both to finish its spring break trip with a 4-2 overall record.

After splitting their first four games on Sunday and Monday, the Bulldogs defeated Medaille College, 10-2, on Wednesday and bested Monmouth College (IL), 8-4, on Thursday. DSU had its games vs. The College of New Jersey and Alvernia University rained out on Wednesday and Thursday.

DeSales – 10, Medialle – 2
The Bulldogs scored seven runs in the second inning and put their 10th run on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning to defeat Medaille, 10-2, via the eight-run rule on Wednesday. Seniors Kate Steiner and Jen Lococo each had three hits, with Lococo, senior Kristin Schultz, and junior Sharon Yudt each knocking in two runs in the win. Junior Christine Petrilla, Steiner, and Schultz each scored twice and sophomore Julie Brugger had two hits to lead the offensive attack. Petrilla earned the win allowing just four hits and two runs over five innings of work.

DeSales – 8, Monmouth – 4
DeSales used a big third inning this time, scoring five times in the third frame to record the 8-4 win. Steiner again led the way with three more hits, her third in six games during the trip, and also scored three times. Schultz and Lococo each had two hits and Yudt entered the game late, registering two hits, including a triple. Freshman Cassie Wagman hit her first career home run in the win. Lococo earned her first win of the season in the circle, scattering 13 hits and striking out four over seven innings.

The Bulldogs return to action on Sunday, March 20th when they travel to Lebanon Valley College for a non-conference doubleheader.
