Center Valley, PA (April 2, 2011) – Sunny skies were welcomed as the DeSales University softball team was finally able to play a home game, sweeping Misericordia University in a Freedom Conference doubleheader, thanks to 23 hits in the two games, including 16 in the first game, as senior Jen Lococo broke the career RBI record with her 99th RBI in her career.

The Bulldogs blasted the ball all over the yard on Saturday, accounting for 23 total hits, 13 of which went for extra bases. Lococo entered the afternoon needing just one RBI to break Jackie Fasolka's career mark of 97 RBIs and took over first place all-time with a two-run homer in the first inning of game one. Lococo added another RBI in game two to finish the afternoon with 99 career RBIs, one shy of becoming the first-ever player with 100 in a career.

In game one, DSU (6-6, 2-2 Freedom) totaled 16 hits and hit three home runs, scoring in all but one inning for a 9-2 win. Lococo started things with a two-run shot to left in the first inning. Senior Kristin Schultz added a two-run double in the second inning, sophomore Julie Brugger hit her first of two solo home runs in the third inning, and Schultz added two more RBIs on another double in the fourth.

Lococo did the rest on the mound, scattering eight hits over seven innings, striking out five to earn her second win of the season and the 37th of her career. Senior Kate Steiner continued her smoking hot pace at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs scored. Schultz finished with four RBIs, giving her 15 on the season in 12 games, and Brugger had three hits, two runs scored, and two RBIs.

Freshman Cassie Wagman had an RBI hit, and juniors Shelly McCarthy and Brianna Chilcoat each had two hits and scored once in the game one win.

In game two, Steiner led off the game with her second triple of the day and gave DSU a 1-0 lead on a passed ball. After a lead-off double from Chilcoat in third inning, Steiner plated her and Lococo drove in Steiner to make it 3-1 and Chilcoat drove in the eventual winning run in the fourth, plating Wagman with her second straight double off the centerfield fence.

Junior Katie Morrissey earned her second win of the season, allowing three runs, all on solo homers, striking out eight in the complete-game victory. Steiner added two more hits and two more runs scored, Wagman tossed in two hits, and Chilcoat was 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI.

The Bulldogs return to action tomorrow afternoon when they host Kean University in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 1:00 pm.
