Center Valley, PA (April 21, 2011) – The DeSales University softball team saw its five-game winning streak snapped as King's College used a seventh inning rally in game one and two three-run homers in game two to sweep the Bulldogs, 4-3 and 8-2, in a Freedom Conference doubleheader on Thursday afternoon.

In game one, DSU (16-10, 7-5 Freedom) never trailed until the final inning. The Bulldogs took a 2-0 lead in the fourth on an RBI double from sophomore Julie Brugger and an RBI base hit from junior Christine Petrilla. King's tied it in the fifth, but the Bulldogs regained the lead in the sixth on an RBI double from Petrilla, scoring senior Jen Lococo.

The Lady Monarchs (12-9, 7-4 Freedom) however strung together four singles in the top of the seventh inning, plating two runs, and DeSales didn't have the answer in the bottom of the frame, dropping game one, 4-3. Lococo took the loss allowing 11 hits and four runs, striking out six. Petrilla and senior Kate Steiner each had two hits in the game one loss.

In game two, a game tied at two entering the sixth inning saw King's break it wide open with two three-run homers in the inning, pushing the Lady Monarchs up six (8-2) and DeSales was unable to rally in the final two innings.

Junior Katie Morrissey took the loss in game two allowing five hits and five runs, striking out six over 5.1 innings pitched. Brugger, Petrilla, and freshman Courtney McKenna each had two hits in game two, part of a 10-hit attack, but DSU left nine runners on-base, able to just cross home plate two times in the second game.

DSU returns to the diamond on Tuesday, April 26th when they welcome nationally ranked and local rival Moravian College to town for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 4:00 pm.
