St. David's, PA (April 30, 2011) – The DeSales University University softball swept Eastern University on Saturday afternoon by scores of 2-0 and 5-2 and after all the dust settled on a wild day in the Freedom Conference the Bulldogs finished tied for first with FDU-Florham and earned the #1 seed in the Freedom Conference playoffs after all the tiebreakers were broken.

DeSales (19-11, 9-5 Freedom) will be the #1 seed when the playoffs open next Friday at King's College and will take on the #4 seed Manhattanville College. FDU-Florham is the #2 seed and King's College rounds out the four playoff teams as the #3 seed.

In game one on Saturday, senior Jen Lococo tossed her second shutout of the season allowing just four hits and striking out two to earn her eighth win of the year. She is now 8-5 with a 2.40 ERA on the season for the Bulldogs.

Lococo got all the support she needed from freshman Cassie Wagman who hit a solo home run in the second inning, the fifth of the season for Wagman and another run in the fourth inning when Lococo herself doubled and came around to score on an RBI single from junior Christine Petrilla. Lococo and Wagman each finished with two hits in the five-hit attack for DeSales in game one.

In the second game, junior Katie Morrissey earned her seventh win of the year allowing just six hits and two runs over seven innings, striking out six. She, like Lococo, lowered her ERA to 2.40 on the season as well with the win.

Sophomore Courtney McKenna drove in the first run with a single scoring Petrilla in the second inning, DSU added two more runs in the fifth inning on RBI hits from senior Kristin Schultz and Lococo and Wagman drove in two more in the seventh with her second double of the second game.

DeSales had 11 hits in the game two win, including two from senior Kate Steiner, two from Lococo, two from Wagman, and two from McKenna.

The Bulldogs return to action on Sunday afternoon when they host York College in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at Noon in the final regular season home game for the Bulldogs.
