BOX SCORE
Wilkes-Barre, PA (May 7, 2011) – The DeSales University softball team fell behind early and was never able to battle all the way back, falling to Manhattanville College, 5-3, in game five of the Freedom Conference Playoffs tournament being held at King's College eliminating the Bulldogs from the conference tournament.
The Bulldogs record moves to 22-13 overall with the loss as DSU now awaits a possible ECAC South Region Tournament bid on Monday to hopefully extend its season.
MVC took a 2-0 lead early with solo runs in the first and third innings before DSU got within one on bottom of the third inning on an RBI single from senior
Kristin Schultz plating fellow senior
Kate Steiner who doubled to lead-off the inning.
After a scoreless fourth inning the Valiants took a 5-1 lead with three more runs in the top of the fifth inning. DeSales again answered with two tallies in the bottom of the frame but on a sacrifice fly from Schultz and an RBI single from junior
Christine Petrilla but the rally ended there and the Bulldogs went in order in both the sixth and seventh innings.
Senior
Jen Lococo suffered the loss, allowing seven hits and four earned runs over 4.1 innings pitched. Steiner was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, Lococo had two hits and Schultz knocked in two runs to lead the offensive attack.
The ECAC South Region Tournament bids are expected to be announced sometime on Monday afternoon.
