Montclair, NJ (March 22, 2012) – Montclair State University jumped out early in game one and used a three-run sixth in game two to earn a sweep of a non-conference doubleheader over the DeSales University softball team on Thursday afternoon.

The Bulldogs fall to 2-10 overall on the season, while the Red Hawks stay undefeated with a perfect 11-0 record.

MSU scored twice in both the first and second innings in game one.  Freshman Ericka Esposito hit a solo home run in the top of the fifth to get DSU on the board, before Montclair scored twice more in the bottom of the inning to provide the final score.

Senior Christine Petrilla suffered the loss in the circle, lasting 4.2 innings allowing six hits and four earned runs.  Junior Julie Brugger had two of DSU's five hits in game one.

DeSales jumped out on top in game two in the third inning when senior Brianna Chilcoat tripled and scored one batter later on an RBI single from Brugger.

The Bulldogs continued to lead entering the bottom of the sixth inning before three DeSales errors led to three unearned runs for the Red Hawks as MSU took a 3-1 lead and Montclair St. was able to strand a runner on second in the top of the seventh inning to preserve the win.

Freshman Rachel Vogel pitched very well for the Bulldogs scattering seven hits over 5.1 innings allowing just those three unearned runs and striking out five.  Freshman Taylor Kelly, Chilcoat, and Brugger accounted for five of DSU's six hits at the top of the order.

DeSales returns to action on Saturday when they begin Freedom Conference play with a doubleheader at Delaware Valley College beginning at 1:00 pm.
