Union, NJ (March 29, 2012) – Freshman
Ericka Esposito pitched six innings of solid relief to earn her first career win in game two leading the DeSales University softball team to a doubleheader split at Kean University on Thursday afternoon by scores of 6-2 in game one and 5-2 in game two.
In game one, Kean (10-6) scored five times in the bottom of the first inning after DSU (6-12) had taken a 1-0 lead and never looked back to win 6-2 in the opener. Esposito took the loss in that game, lasting just 0.1 innings allowing the first five runs before senior
Christine Petrilla pitched the final 5.2 innings of the game allowing just one run and striking out five.
Petrilla also knocked in one run on an RBI single in the first inning and freshman
Taylor Kelly had a strong game, finishing 2-for-4 with a run scored and RBI.
In the second game, Esposito entered the game in relief of fellow freshman
Rachel Vogel, who had to leave the game after being hit with a line drive to end the bottom of the first inning. DSU led 1-0 after one frame and scored three more runs in the second and once more in the third to lead 5-0 and Esposito did the rest.
Senior
Brianna Chilcoat had a two-run single in the second inning, T. Kelly continued her hot hitting, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored in the second game, and junior
Julie Brugger had an RBI hit in the win. Freshman
Kayla Adanalian also had a strong day, going 1-for-1 in the opener, and 2-for-2 with a run scored and RBI in the game two win. Esposito earned her first win scattering six hits and allowing just two unearned runs in relief of Vogel.
