Madison, NJ (April 1, 2012) – Freshmen Ericka Esposito and Carly Bartholomew each hit home runs, accounting for all the runs in game one leading the DeSales University softball team to a split of a Freedom Conference doubleheader on Sunday afternoon at FDU-Florham by scores of 7-4 in game one and 9-1 in game two.

In game one, Esposito gave DSU (7-13, 3-1 Freedom) a 3-0 first inning lead with a three-run home run with two outs scoring freshman Taylor Kelly and junior Julie Brugger who had each walked.  FDU (9-7, 1-1 Freedom) cut the deficit to one with two runs in the third inning but the Bulldogs put it away in the sixth when Bartholomew cleared the bases with her first career home run giving DSU a 7-2 lead.

The Devils did score twice in the bottom of the seventh but it was not enough as senior Christine Petrilla earned her third win of the season scattering eight hits over seven innings, striking out and allowing just two earned runs.  Petrilla also had two hits and Esposito scored twice for the Bulldogs.

In game two, FDU jumped all over the Bulldogs with three runs in the first and four more in the second inning to take a 7-0 lead.  DSU got one run back in the fifth but the Devils scored twice more in the bottom of the fifth to end the game with a 9-1 win.

DSU had just two hits as senior Brianna Chilcoat knocked in the lone Bulldog run.  Freshman Rachel Vogel took the loss allowing all three first inning runs.

The Bulldogs return to action on Thursday when they travel to King's College for a Freedom Conference doubleheader beginning at 3:00 pm.
