Center Valley, PA (April 21, 2012) – Senior Christine Petrilla tossed her first career complete-game shutout allowing just four hits in a 1-0 game one win and the DeSales University softball team exploded for 10 first innings runs en route to a 10-1 game two win to sweep both games with Wilkes University in Freedom Conference action on Saturday afternoon.

In the opener, both pitchers brought their “A” games as Petrilla and WU's Laykin Hughes tossed gems, but the Bulldogs (13-21, 5-7 Freedom) was the first to break through as junior Julie Brugger doubled with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning and Petrilla singled her home with a base hit to centerfield giving herself and the team a 1-0 victory.

Petrilla was dominant in the circle allowing just four hits and striking out six over seven innings.  She had to pitch out of a bases loaded, one out jam in the fourth inning and left runners stranded at third in both the fifth and seventh innings to earn her fifth win of the season.

In the second game, DSU could do no wrong at the plate in the first inning, sending 13 batters to the plate and lacing eight hits.  Brugger had an RBI double and a two-run home run in the inning alone.  Petrilla had a sacrifice fly RBI, freshman Carly Bartholomew had a two-RBI single, junior Brittany Wilson and freshman Kayla Adanalian each had RBI singles, and freshman Taylor Kelly had an RBI double in the 10-run inning.

Lost in the offensive explosion was the performance by freshman Rachel Vogel in the circle as she earned her fourth win of the year allowing just three hits, one unearned run, no walks, striking out four batters in her second straight solid performance to lower her season-long ERA to just 3.04.

The Bulldogs are scheduled to return to action tomorrow afternoon (weather pending) when they host Alvernia University in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at Noon.
