Wilkes-Barre, PA (April 5, 2012) – The DeSales University softball team dropped both ends of a Freedom Conference doubleheader on Thursday afternoon, falling to conference rival King's College, 4-3 and 5-3, to fall back to .500 in the Freedom standings with the two losses.

In the opener, DSU (7-15, 3-3 Freedom) led 1-0 after the top of the first inning on an RBI single from freshman Shelby Wilson, but the Lady Monarchs (19-5, 5-3 Freedom) pushed three tallies across home plate in the bottom of the inning to lead, 3-1.

DeSales tied the game in the top of the second inning when freshman Taylor Kelly and junior Julie Brugger each laced RBI doubles but King's broke thru in the bottom of the fourth inning, plating one run on three hits to lead 4-3 and held on for the win.

Senior Christine Petrilla took the loss allowing all four KC runs, striking out four.  T. Kelly led the offensive charge with two hits, a run scored, and an RBI, while junior Courtney McKenna also had two hits and scored once.

In the second game, a scoreless game entering the bottom of the fifth inning was broken open by the Lady Monarchs who scored five times to take a 5-0 lead.  DeSales answered with three in the top of the sixth inning on an RBI single from Brugger and a two-RBI single from Petrilla but were turned aside in the seventh as King's earned the sweep.

Junior Brittany Wilson took the loss, allowing three earned runs over 4.1 innings of relief of senior Katie Morrissey, who started the game but lasted just five pitches.  Senior Brianna Chilcoat had two of DSU's five hits and scored once in the game two loss.

The Bulldogs return to action on Monday afternoon when they host Widener University in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 3:00 pm.
