Wayne, NJ (April 25, 2013) – Freshman DJ McCauley won her 12th game and went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored in game one leading the DeSales University softball team to a doubleheader split at William Paterson University with a 5-3 win in game one before a game two 4-2 loss.

In the opener, sophomore Carly Bartholomew got things started with an RBI double knocking in McCauley with the game's first run.  WPU tied the game at one in the bottom of the second inning before the Bulldogs erupted for four tallies in the third on a two-RBI single from McCauley and an RBI single from sophomore Shelby Wilson.

DSU threatened to blow the game open in the fifth loading the bases with no one out but were unable to score.  Paterson cut the margin down to 5-3 in the bottom of the seventh inning with two outs but sophomore Ericka Esposito entered the game for McCauley and earned her first save of the season, getting the final two outs to end the game on a strikeout looking.

McCauley finished with half of DSU's six hits and went 6.1 innings allowing six hits and three runs to earn her 12th win of the year.

In the second game, DSU took a 2-1 lead on RBI singles from sophomores Rachel Vogel and Kayla Adanalian.  The Bulldogs still led 2-1 entering the bottom of the fourth inning when Vogel retired the first two batters but a walk and a single put runners on first and second before an error extended the inning and eventually led to three Pioneer runs and DeSales was unable to complete a comeback offensively.

Sophomore Taylor Kelly and Adanalian each had two hits in the loss.  Vogel suffered the loss in the circle tossing six innings allowing just five hits and one earned run, striking out two.

The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday when they host King's College in the final regular season Freedom Conference doubleheader beginning at 1:00 pm with first place on the line.
