Box Score 2 Union, NJ (March 23, 2014) – Sophomore
DJ McCauley fired a three-hit shutout in game one leading the DeSales University softball team to a doubleheader split with #25 Kean University in non-conference action on Sunday afternoon.
McCauley allowed just five base-runners in game one, striking out nine, and only allowed two base-runners to touch second base in the 1-0 win.
DSU (6-5) had a base-runner in every inning off KU's
Courtney Yard and finally broke thru for a run in the sixth inning when McCauley singled to start the inning and later scored on a Cougar error three batters later. McCauley finished with two hits at the plate along with junior
Kayla Adanalian.
The second game was equally as tight thru four innings with junior
Rachel Vogel pitching a gem as Kean lead 1-0 before senior
Brittany Wilson entered the circle and was only able to record one out before the Cougars scored four runs on four hits, including a two-run home run from
Kelly Moorehead and the Bulldogs were unable to recover.
Freshman
Alexa Beaumont hit a two-run home run in the sixth to pull DSU within three runs but the Bulldogs could get no closer in the loss. Vogel was outstanding but suffered a hard-luck loss allowing just one unearned run over 5.2 innings allowing just two hits and striking out two. Six different Bulldogs had hits in the loss.
DeSales is scheduled to return to action on Tuesday afternoon hosting the College of New Jersey in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 3:00 pm.
