Clermont, FL (March 5, 2014) – Sophomore
DJ McCauley and junior
Rachel Vogel each fired complete-game wins leading the DeSales University softball team to a sweep of two games on Wednesday afternoon with a 6-0 win over Ohio Northern University and a 6-2 win over Elizabethtown College in Clermont, FL.
In the first game, McCauley went the distance allowing just five hits and striking out five. DSU (3-3) took a 2-0 lead in the second inning on RBI doubles from sophomores
Amanda Setzer and
Michelle Gessner and added one run in the fifth, two more in the sixth, and another in the seventh to provide the final tally.
Gessner finished the opener 3-for-3 and Setzer scored twice and knocked in two runs in the win.
In the second game, Vogel tossed her second straight strong game also allowing just five hits and one earned run over seven frames to improve to 2-0 on the year. DSU trailed 2-0 after two and a half innings but scored six runs in four consecutive innings including twice in the third and the fifth to rally for the win.
Sophomore
Emily Hockman continued to swing a hot bat going 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI, Gessner had two more hits, junior
Carly Bartholomew went 2-for-4 with an RBI, and junior
Kayla Adanalian had two hits and scored once in the win.
The Bulldogs wrap up their spring trip to Clermont, FL tomorrow when they face St. Mary's (MN) and Coe in the morning.
