Box Score 2 Wilkes-Barre, PA (April 13, 2014) – The DeSales University softball team was shut out twice losing both ends of a Freedom Conference doubleheader on Sunday afternoon at Misericordia University by scores of 1-0 and 3-0.
The Bulldogs (9-12, 4-6 Freedom) have lost six straight Freedom Conference games after starting 4-0 in the conference standings with four games left to play vs. Eastern University and Delaware Valley College.
In the first game on Sunday, MU earned a 1-0 win in a pitcher's duel scoring the winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning when
Megan Gowe tripled and came around to score on a wild pitch with two outs as the Bulldogs mustered just four hits in the game and had just one runner reach second base all game.
Sophomore
DJ McCauley took the loss despite pitching very well allowing just two hits all game, striking out seven. She retired the side in order in three of the six innings.
In the second game, MU scored twice in the second inning and once more in the third to take a 3-0 lead and DSU was blanked for the second straight game, recording just five hits in game two.
Junior
Rachel Vogel took the loss allowing two runs over one inning pitched. Five different Bulldogs had hits in the loss.
DeSales returns to action on Tuesday when they travel crosstown to take on Moravian College in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 3:30 pm.
