Center Valley, PA (April 17, 2014) – Sophomore
DJ McCauley earned two wins in the circle and scored the game-winning run in game one leading the DeSales University softball team past Eastern University, 1-0 and 4-3, in a Freedom Conference doubleheader on Thursday afternoon.
The wins move DeSales to 11-12 overall and 6-6 in the Freedom Conference. The Bulldogs are now tied with Misericordia University for the fourth and final Freedom Conference playoff spot with each team having one doubleheader left in the season. DSU will need to sweep Delaware Valley College and hope that the Cougars drop one of their two games vs. Wilkes University to earn the fourth and final spot.
In the first game on Thurdsay, McCauley fired a three-hit shutout, striking out nine and allowing just two base-runners to reach second base. She also scored the game's lone run, doubling to lead-off the fourth inning and came around to score five batters later on an RBI single from junior
Kayla Adanalian.
Adanalian finished with two of DSU's seven hits in game one.
In the second game, McCauley lasted 6.1 innings allowing 11 hits and three runs, striking out three to earn her sixth win of the season. Senior
Brittany Wilson came in to record the final two outs in the seventh to earn her first save of the year.
DSU scored all four its runs in the first inning when sophomore
Michelle Gessner hit a lead-off home run, freshman
Alexa Beaumont knocked in sophomore
Emily Hockman with an RBI single, and junior
Carly Bartholomew knocked in both McCauley and Beaumont with an two-RBI single.
Hockman finished two hits in the win.
The Bulldogs return to action on Monday, April 21
st when they host Lebanon Valley College in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 3:00 pm.
