Center Valley, PA (April 21, 2014) – #14 Lebanon Valley College scored two unearned runs in game one and scored five runs in the fourth inning of game two to earn a doubleheader sweep of the Bulldogs, 2-0 and 7-2, in non-conference action on a gorgeous Monday afternoon.

In the first game, LVC's Sam Derr and junior Rachel Vogel battled in a pitcher's duel with the Flying Dutchmen (26-3) benefitting from an error with two outs in the third inning to score the lone runs of the game.

With runners on first and second and two outs in the inning Vogel got LVC's clean-up hitter to bounce softly to first base but the ball was bobbled and a throw home to try and cut down the runner at second was dropped after a tag was made enabling the first run to score.  After a walk, the second run scored on an RBI single from Emily Johnson before the final out was recorded in the inning.

That was all Vogel allowed the rest of the game holding down LVC to just six hits and striking out three.  LVC's Derr tossed a four-hit shutout, striking out nine to improve to 16-0 on the season.  Sophomore Michelle Gessner had two of DSU's four hits in game one.

In the second game, Lebanon Valley scored twice in the first inning on a two-run homer from Derr and tacked on five more in the fourth inning on seven hits and one Bulldog error to lead 7-1 and never looked back from there.

DSU plated one run in the second on an RBI single from sophomore Amanda Setzer and scored again in the seventh on back-to-back doubles from junior Taylor Kelly and Gessner.  Kelly had two doubles in the loss and sophomore Samantha Gibson and junior Kayla Adanalian each had two hits.  Sophomore DJ McCauley suffered the loss allowing four runs over 3 1/3 innings pitched.

The Bulldogs return to action on Thursday, April 24th when they host William Paterson University in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 3:00 pm.
