Center Valley, PA (April 5, 2014) – Manhattanville College erased early deficits in both ends of a Freedom Conference doubleheader on a windy Saturday afternoon, sweeping the Bulldogs by scores of 6-4 and 7-4, to stay unbeaten in Freedom Conference play and hand DeSales its first conference losses of the season.

DeSales (8-7, 4-2 Freedom) led 2-0 after one inning in game one after a two-run home run from sophomore DJ McCauley but the Valiants struck for three runs in the third inning, including a two-run homer from Alyssa Taylor to lead, 3-2.

DSU tied the game at three on an RBI single from sophomore Emily Hockman in the fifth inning and had the bases loaded with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning but were unable to push across the winning run.

In the eighth inning, the Valiants (10-6, 6-0 Freedom) rallied with two outs as Brittany Deieso doubled, Shauna Mulkerin turned the lineup over with a walk, and Rosaria Callara homered to right field giving MVC a 6-3 lead.  In the bottom of the inning, DSU tried to put together its own two-out rally as junior Taylor Kelly singled home pinch-runner, sophomore Taylor DelMonte, but sophomore Michelle Gessner popped out to end the threat and the game.

McCauley took the loss allowing 11 hits and six runs over eight innings, striking out nine.  Hockman, junior Kayla Adanalian, and Kelly each had two hits in the game one loss for the Bulldogs.

In the second game, DSU once again struck early as Gessner hit a solo homer and freshman Alexa Beaumont hit a two-run homer in the first inning staking the Bulldogs to a 3-0 lead.

MVC got one back in the second inning on a solo shot by Taylor and tied the game in the fifth on a two-run double from Shelbee Damianos.  Taylor gave the Valiants a 4-3 lead with her third home run of the day, a solo shot in the sixth and MVC added one more in the sixth, and two more in the seventh to take a 7-3 lead.  Beaumont led off the bottom of the seventh inning with a solo home run but DSU went in order the rest of the inning to end the game.

Junior Rachel Vogel suffered the loss allowing 12 hits and five runs over 5.2 innings, striking out four.  Gessner and Beaumont each had two hits in the loss.

The Bulldogs return to action on Thursday, April 10th when they host Alvernia University in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 3:00 pm.
