League of Legends Earns Second Win of Season; 2-1 over UNC-Greensboro

| By:
Center Valley, PA (October 29, 2024) - The DeSales University eSports League of Legends team earned its second win of the season taking down UNC-Greensboro, 2-1, on Tuesday evening.

The match played out in a Best-Of-Three format. The DSU roster included Leuk (Luke Scalo), Unhandthylp (Jacky Zhang), PapaTurk (David Terzioglu), GenEric (Eric Chen), and Sccutze (Alixix Ratjavong).

Game 1
In the first game, DeSales prioritized Corki in the mid-lane draft following his buffs in the last patch. They also paid special attention to other currently strong Champions such as Gwen and Kai'sa. UNCG opted for some more niche picks such as Ezreal mid and Zyra support.

DeSales struggled in the early game due to an inability to take advantage of timings and play together. A failed attempt to force a play on Juuzou cost Leuk and PapaTurk their lives and put DeSales at a tempo disadvantage. Several failed dives and ganks proceeded, with DeSales narrowly losing due to play errors.
Notably, Unhand thy lp did buy time for DeSales during UNCG's Rift Herald attempt. He was able to narrowly escape and allowed DSU to collapse and pick up 3 kills. DeSales was also able to pick the third dragon and take down UNCG's mid-laner. Leuk was also able to steal a dragon from UNCG with a Corki missile and prevent them from obtaining Dragon Soul. However, UNCG eventually secured Baron Nashor and won the game.

Game 2
DSU prioritized first, with Leuk picking Yone. UNCG opted for Smolder, a common Yone counterpick. Switching their strategy, DSU placed Sccutze on Ezreal bot-lane and had GenEric roam.

At first, UNCG's counterpick was working and Smolder was able to bully Yone and even kill Leuk with the jungler's help. However, Leuk returned with a vengeance and was able to immediately push UNCG's mid-laner back. Papaturk also was able to successfully secure a lead top-lane for Unhandthylp and secure Void Grubs. Unhand Thy Lp and Leuk popped off this game, collecting multiple solo kills against their laners. GenEric's roaming strategy from bot-lane also seemed to put too much pressure onto UNCG. DSU secured all 6 Void Grubs and took first tower in top-lane in exchange for the dragon. Sccutze on Ezreal held his own in bot-lane and helped his teammates to make plays.

In the late-game, Leuk and PapaTurk worked together bot-lane to take out UNCG players. DSU then won another fight, secured a dragon, and collected Baron Nashor after forcing a fight with Unhandthylp. UNCG attempted a 5v4 fight against DSU with Unhand Thy Lp's teleport being down, but lost the fight and lost both inhibitors. Leuk managed to win a 1v3 against UNCG, and with the help of GenEric the last 2 members fell as well, scoring him an unofficial Pentakill and ending the game shortly after.

Game 3
DSU picked a more standard topside draft and went for Ezreal and Nautilus again in the third game, aiming to continue their successful game 2 playstyle. UNCG switched from a marksman mid-lane to a mage and a more standard team comp.

Game 3 started with Unhand Thy LP scoring a solo kill on Kirineos. It followed a similar trend to game 2, with Unhand thy lp and Leuk creating a substantial lead against their opponents and providing a lot of pressure for PapaTurk and GenEric to roam and capitalize on.

Around 10 minutes in, UNCG dived DSU's bot-lane while they were low but overextended into DSU territory. Leuk and PapaTurk collapsed on them, scoring 3 kills. DSU managed to get 5 of the 6 grubs this game and started to take down UNCG's structures.

Through better map movement, DSU took the second and third dragons and slowed down the game's pace. UNCG forced a fight on top-lane, and DeSales was able to win after sacrificing Leuk. Unhandthylp then teleported to another fight happening at the same time, resulting in an Ace for DSU.

After these successful battles, DSU pushed up mid and took the inhibitor tower. DSU secured Baron and won another fight. After a play on the enemy Orianna in the UNCG  jungle, Leuk picked UNCG's players off with Ahri charm. DSU finally dove into UNCG's base, took down every enemy without losing a single teammate and won the game.
