Men’s Track and Field Competes at Danny Curran Invitational

Chester, PA (March 29, 2025) - The DeSales University men's track & field team continued its outdoor season competing at the Danny Curran Invitational hosted by Widener University on Friday and Saturday.

Beginning on day 1, the Bulldogs competed in the 5000 meter run as well as the 10000 meter run. DeSales also competed on Friday in the shot put, discus throw, and triple jump.
 
DeSales opened strong in the 5,000 with sophomore Joey Wilson who took 4th place overall, with a personal record time of 14:37.94. Joey's time not only earns him the MAC qualifying standard in the 5000, but it also placed him as the 2nd fastest runner in DeSales school history in the 5k. More Bulldog's also put on notable performances in the 5,000. First-year James Viglianti placed 70th overall, with a personal record time of 16:20.93. Sophomore Dylan Doskocil took 80th overall, with a time of 16:33.51.
 
The Bulldogs also put up top times in the 10000. Senior Dean Ricco took 20th place overall, running a personal record time of 32:27.45. Dean's time earns him the MAC qualifying standard in the 10000 and also lands him as the 8th fastest runner in DeSales school history in the 10k. More performances included first-year Bryce Phillips, who placed 33rd with a personal record time of 33:17.80. Bryce's time also earns him the MAC qualifying time for the 10000. Junior James Cook placed 53rd overall, with a time of 34:47.98. Senior Cody Smith took 60th place overall with a time of 36:30.22.
 
DeSales also preformed strong in the field events Friday night. In the shot put, senior Jacob Schaeffer took 15th place overall, with a throw of 13.26 meters. For the discus throw, Jacob Schaeffer placed 9th overall, with a personal record throw of 43.43 meters. Jacob's performance earned him the MAC qualifying standard for both the shot put and discus throw.
 
In the triple jump, first-year Jonathan Castronovo took 14th place overall, with a jump of 12.93 meters. Junior Peter Skulski placed 23rd, with a jump of 11.69 meters. Both Jonathan and Peter earned the MAC qualifying standard for the triple jump.
 
Continuing day 2, the Bulldog's kicked things off in the 1500 meter run. Taking 33rd place overall, senior Tim Connell ran a personal record time of 4:11.08. Timmy's time earned him the MAC qualifying spot for the 1500. Other performances in the 1500 included senior John Murphy who placed 93rd, with a personal record time of 4:36.00. First-year Brian Samayoa placed 94th, with a personal record time of 4:36.70. First-year Michael Arculeo finished 108th, with a personal record time of 5:12.02.
 
In the 800, sophomore Jozef Callano took 10th place overall, with a personal record time of 1:54.23. Jozef's time earns him the MAC qualifying time in the 800 and put's him as the 4th fastest 800 runner in DeSales school history. More achievements in the 800 included first-year Alex Porambo who placed 48th, with a time of 2:02.14. First-year Aidan Phillips finished in 72nd place overall, with a time of 2:07.08. Junior Jordan Gallo placed 89th overall and finished with a time of 2:13.41.
 
For the 100, junior Tyler McCulloch placed 63rd overall, with a time of 11.47. Tyler's time exactly hit the MAC qualifying time of 11.47, earning him the title. More performances included first-year Cooper Stutz who finished 102nd, with a time of 11.87. Sophomore Javell McMichael placed 121st, with a time of 12.12. Sophomore Weston Simak finished 130th, with a time of 12.23.
 
DSU also had more notable performances in the 110 meter hurdles. Senior Sam Estherson took 3rd place overall, running a time of 14.85. Sam's time puts him as the 1st fastest DeSales runner in school history for the 110 hurdles, beating his previous title as 1st by .02 seconds. Sam also earned the MAC qualifying standard for the 110 meter hurdles.
 
In the 400 meter hurdles, sophomore Bryce Guthier placed 12th overall, finishing with a time of 57.24. Bryce's time puts him as the 7th fastest runner in the 400 hurdles in DeSales school history. He also earned the MAC qualifying time for the 400 hurdles.
 
For the 200, junior Tyler McCulloch placed 65th overall with a time of 23.09. Senior Sam Estherson finished 68th overall, with a time of 23.14. Both Tyler and Sam earned the MAC qualifying time for the 200 meter. Other performances in the 200 included first-year Cooper Stutz who finished 101st, with a time of 23.75. Junior Braeden De Grazia who finished 136th, with a time of 25.11.
 
Moving to the field events on day 2, in the hammer throw, junior Jonathan Eudja took 5th place overall, with a throw of 48.93 meters. Jonathan's throw puts him as the 8th farthest throw in DeSales school history. He also earned the MAC qualifying standard for the hammer. Junior Giovanni Wellington placed 18th overall, with a throw of 42.24 meters.
 
For the javelin throw, first-year Preston De Grazia placed 18th overall, with a throw of 47.34 meters. Junior Dane Watson finished in 23rd, with a throw of 45.88 meters. Both Preston and Dane earned the MAC qualifying standard for the javelin.
 
In the Long Jump, sophomore Weston Simak took 13th place overall, with a jump of 6.54 meters. Weston's jump earned him the MAC qualifying standard for the long jump.
 
Closing out day 2 of the meet, DeSales ran two 4x400 meter relay teams. Relay team "A" consisted of Jozef Callano, Bryce Guthier, Alex Porambo, and anchor Aidan Phillips. Together they finished in 17th overall, with a final time of 3:30.18. Relay team "B" consisted of Tim Connell, Brian Samayoa, Jordan Gallo, and anchor John Murphy. Together they finished 27th overall, with a final time of 3:54.33.
 
Next weekend Saturday April 5th the bulldog's are back in action competing at the Muhlenberg College Invitational in Allentown, PA.
