Wilkes-Barre, PA (October 15, 2008) – The DeSales University men's soccer team continues to see the ball bounce the wrong way as the Bulldogs suffered its fourth straight loss and its seventh in the last eight games falling to Wilkes University, 2-1, in the second overtime in a Freedom Conference game on Wednesday afternoon.

The Bulldogs fall to 5-9 overall and 1-2 in the Freedom with the loss, while the Colonels improve to 8-5-1 overall and stay perfect in the Freedom Conference with a 4-0 record. The game was very evenly played throughout with the Colonels holding a 16-13 edge in shots and the Bulldogs holding an 8-6 advantage in corner kicks.

DSU struck first when junior Dustin Sturm (North Cape May, NJ/Lower Cape May) scored off assists from senior German Reyes (Beach Lake, PA/Honesdale) and freshman Derek Long (Wernersville, PA/Conrad Weiser) at just the 9:36 mark of the first half. DeSales controlled most of the first half as Wilkes never really threatened in the opening half.

The second half was a back and forth defensive battle as the Bulldogs continued to cling to its one-goal lead into the 84th minute when Wilkes broke thru with tying goal on a header from Doug Moore off a centering pass from Sean Vona. The final seven minutes went by scoreless as both teams headed to the overtime period.

The first overtime saw just three shots and no goals and the second overtime saw just one shot, but it went in as James Humenansky scored on a rocket about 25-yards out to ignite a Colonel celebration and sink the Bulldogs.

DSU will look to re-group and get back to the win column on Saturday, October 18th when they host Misericordia University in another Freedom Conference game beginning at 2:30 pm.
