Center Valley, PA (April 30, 2008) – The DeSales University softball team finished its regular season schedule with its third straight doubleheader sweep, topping Albright College, 8-0 and 9-1, in a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon moving just one win shy of tying the school-record for wins in a season.

The Bulldogs are now 24-12 and winners of six straight as they head into the Freedom Conference playoffs as the #1 seed in the Freedom Conference tournament. The 24 wins are the second most in school-history as DeSales now stands just one win shy of tying the all-time mark set in 1995 (25-9). DSU will look to tie the record in its first round playoff game vs. FDU-Florham on Friday morning at 11:00 am.

In game one on Wednesday, DSU collected 15 hits and scored eight times to easily defeat the Lions. A three-run first saw junior Kelly Moran (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic), freshman Kate Steiner (Walnutport, PA/Northampton) and freshman Jen Lococo (Easton, PA/Freedom) all record RBI hits, while Moran and Steiner each had RBI hits in the third as well giving the Bulldogs a 5-0 lead.

DeSales ended the game in the bottom of the fifth inning scoring three times to go up by eight runs, ending the game. Steiner made it a 3-for-3 day with a solo home run to lead off the inning, while freshman Meghan Callahan (Franklin Square, NY/H. Frank Carey) and sophomore Kerri Andrews (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) each had RBI hits to post the final winning margin.

Sophomore Kristen Cybularz (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Carroll) earned the win, her ninth of the season pitching all five innings allowing just three hits, while walking one and striking out five. Steiner knocked in three runs to go along with her three hits (all of which were extra base hits), while Moran, Lococo, Andrews and sophomore Kyra Monarek (Allentown, PA/Parkland) each had two hits in the attack.

In the second game, DSU fell behind 1-0 in the first inning but exploded for seven runs in the second inning to take a 7-1 lead and tacked on two more runs in the fourth to provide the final tally. Five different players had RBI's in the seven-run second inning including Moran with a bases clearing double. Andrews, freshman Kristin Schultz (Laurys Station, PA/Parkland), Steiner and Lococo also had RBI hits in the second frame. Junior Jamie Pfitzenmayer (Annandale, NJ/Hunterdon Central) had an RBI base hit in the fourth and Schultz scored on a wild pitch for the ninth run of the game.

Freshmen Larissa Tenley (Sinking Spring, PA/Conrad Weiser) and Lococo combined to toss all five innings allowing just three hits and one run. Tenley earned the win, her fifth of the season, not allowing a hit and just one walk over the final two innings. Pfitzenmayer was the lone Bulldog to have multiple hits (two), while Moran led the way with three RBI's in the game two win.

DSU will begin its quest for the school's first-ever Freedom Conference championship in softball on Friday when they play the #4 seed, FDU-Florham, at 11:00 am. More details including directions, admission prices and a preview will be available tomorrow on the Bulldogs athletics web site.
