Chester, PA (September 24, 2008) – Two goals in the second half was not enough to overcome a 2-0 halftime deficit as the DeSales University men's soccer team suffered its third straight loss, falling at Widener University, 3-2, in a non-conference game.

The Bulldogs (4-5 overall) controlled the tempo of the game out-shooting the Pride (3-4-2 overall), 19-7, in the game but Widener took advantage of the few chances it got, netting three goals.

WU got on the board first at the 4:22 mark when Bill James scored on a penalty kick. Brian James gave the hosts a two-goal lead at the 21:31 mark when he took a pass from Justin Hovaker and deposited his second goal of the season, finishing the scoring in the first half.

DSU started its comeback 12 minutes into the second half when freshman Derek Long (Wernersville, PA/Conrad Weiser) scored his sixth goal of the year on a feed from senior Andrew Marshall (Greene, NY/Greene Central).

The game remained a one-goal game over the next 11 minutes before Widener regained its two-goal advantage on a marker from Doug Gabel. DSU got within one once again at the 74:20 mark when junior Marc Leonard (Bondville, VT/Burr and Burton Academy) scored his third tally of the year on an assist from sophomore Joe Yoha (DuBois, PA/DuBois), but that goal ended the scoring as the Bulldogs came up one goal short in its attempt to send the game into overtime.

Junior Kevin Lawrence (Norristown, PA/Kennedy-Kenrick) made just three saves on the Pride's seven shots, while Hamed Correa stopped seven of DSU's nine shots on goal in the win.

The Bulldogs will return to action on Saturday when they begin Freedom Conference play hosting FDU-Florham beginning at 3:30 pm.
