Center Valley, PA, (September 3, 2008) – The DeSales University men's soccer team squandered two leads and missed a penalty kick with the score tied at three mid-way thru the second half and the Cabrini College Cavaliers took advantage coming from behind for a 4-3 win in a non-conference game on Wednesday afternoon.

DSU (2-1 overall) jumped all over the Cavaliers (3-0 overall) in the first half and seemed on its way to another easy win. Freshman Derek Long (Wernersville, PA/Conrad Weiser) scored goals #3 and #4 on the season at the 12:50 and 14:36 mark of the first half to give the Bulldogs a comfortable 2-0 lead. The first goal was assisted by junior Tony Aufiero (Wall, NJ/Wall), while the second was unassisted.

Cabrini regrouped and worked hard to tie the game. They cut the lead in half at the 26:37 mark on Mike McDevitt's second goal of the season off an assist from Evan Hanauer and tied the game just 47 ticks before the halftime buzzer on a Justin McCall's first of three goals in the game, this one off a feed from Jim Mattock, a combination that proved deadly later in the game.

The start of the second half was once again belonged to DeSales as senior German Reyes (Beach Lake, PA/Honesdale) put the Bulldogs back on top scoring off a rebound of fellow senior David Ackley's (North Cape May, NJ/Lower Cape May) shot at the 57:02 mark.

The lead stood for just over 12 minutes when Cabrini battled back again when McCall scored his second tally of the game off a nice pass from Hanauer, who recorded his second assist of the game. DSU, however, responded immediately as junior Dustin Sturm (North Cape May, NJ/Lower Cape May) broke free in the box and was fouled and a penalty kick was awarded. Aufiero took the PK and fired to the left post, but Bryan Johnson guessed right and dove to his right and knocked away the shot, keeping the game tied at three.

The game remained tied into the 80th minute when McCall gave the visitor's their first lead of the afternoon, taking a nice feed from Mattock and knocking the ball home into an empty net as the DSU keeper had been way off the line trying to knock away the pass to the middle from Mattock.

The Bulldogs did not seriously threaten the net over the final nine minutes as Cabrini escaped with a come-from-behind win on the road. DSU had a slight 16-13 edge in shots, while the Cavaliers held a 7-6 advantage in corner kicks. Johnson made five saves, including the probable game-winner on the PK, while junior Kevin Lawrence (Norristown, PA/Kennedy-Kenrick) stopped two of six shots on net in the loss.

DSU returns to the road as they travel to the Stockton Seashore Classic Tournament at Richard Stockton College this Friday and Saturday where they will meet Ramapo College in the first game on Friday evening at 6:00 pm.
