Women’s Soccer Falls to Scranton, 3-2, in Overtime

Allentown, PA (September 5, 2008) – The DeSales University women's soccer team fell for the first time in 2008, losing to The University of Scranton, 3-2, in overtime in the first game of the Muhlenberg College Tournament held at Muhlenberg and DeSales this weekend.

The Bulldogs (2-1 overall) allowed their first goal of the season after winning its first two games by shutout. DSU led 1-0 at the half as senior Dana Eustace (Highland Lakes, NJ/Vernon Township) scored her fifth goal of the season off an assist from sophomore Jill Yetter (Saylorsburg, PA/Pleasant Valley).

The lead remained one until the 74th minute when Kristi Cordier scored unassisted at the 74:26 mark to pull the Lady Royals even. Yetter answered the Scranton goal with a marker off an assist from freshman Haley Vollmer (Hamburg, PA/Hamburg) at the 83:41 mark, but the Bulldogs were unable to hold the lead as UofS tied the game once again with 1:20 left on the clock, forcing the overtime period.

In the first overtime, Scranton's Caroline Corasaniti scored off a feed from Alana Bencivengo 5:58 into the extra period to give the Lady Royals the win.

UofS had a 15-11 edge in shots and held a 10-3 advantage on corner kicks. Junior Katie Halpin (Easton, PA/Notre Dame) made eight saves in goal for the Bulldogs.

DSU returns to action on Saturday when they are scheduled to host Elmira College beginning at 2:00 pm.
