Edwardsville, PA (March 21, 2009) – The DeSales University softball team has certainly memorized the recipe for rebounding from a loss as the Bulldogs recorded their third straight doubleheader split rebounding from a game one loss to take game two in a Freedom Conference doubleheader at Wilkes University on Saturday afternoon.

The Bulldogs are now 9-5 overall and 3-3 in the Freedom Conference, while the Colonels move to 6-8 overall and 1-1 in the Freedom. Wilkes took game one, 3-0, as DSU had just four hits and were never able to get anything going at the plate. Sophomore Jen Lococo (Easton, PA/Freedom) had two of the four hits and also suffered the loss on the mound going four innings allowing just one run and six hits.

In the second game, sophomore Kate Steiner (Walnutport, PA/Northampton) provided all the runs freshman Katie Morrissey (Lanoka Harbor, NJ/Lacey Township) would need as Steiner knocked in five runs and Morrissey went the distance allowing just one run on five hits, while striking out nine to improve to 4-2 on the season.

Leading 1-0 in the top of the third inning, Steiner ripped a bases loaded triple to plate three runs and added a two-RBI single in the fifth inning to lead the offensive attack in game two. Lococo continued her hot hitting with two more hits and also knocked in a run, while senior Jamie Pfitzenmayer (Annandale, NJ/Hunterdon Central) had two hits and scored twice at the top of the order.

DeSales will return to action on Sunday when they travel to Lebanon Valley College for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at Noon.
