Little Falls, NJ (March 27, 2009) – Freshman Katie Morrissey (Lanoka Harbor, NJ/Lacey Township) and sophomore Jen Lococo (Easton, PA/Easton) each threw complete-game wins leading the DeSales University softball team to a doubleheader sweep of Montclair State University on Friday afternoon.

The Bulldogs improved to 12-6 overall, while the Red Hawks fall to 10-4 overall. DSU won both games in extra innings scoring three runs in the top of the ninth inning of the first game to win, 3-2, and scoring two runs in the top of the eighth inning in game two to win 4-3.

In game one junior Kyra Monarek (Allentown, PA/Parkland) started the inning on second base with the tiebreaker rule in effect and quickly advanced to third via a sacrifice. Senior Jamie Pfitzenmayer (Annandale, NJ/Hunterdon Central) singled to plate Monarek with the game's first run and started a string of five straight hits for DeSales as they scored three times in the inning.

Senior Amanda Kensecki (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) and Lococo each had RBI hits among the five straight base knocks. In the bottom of the inning MSU scored two runs on a two RBI double from Adrian Rastocny but Morrissey stranded her on second with two fly outs to end the game.

Morrissey improved to 6-2 on the year pitching all nine innings allowing eight hits and one earned run while striking out eight. Pfitzenmayer and Kensecki each had two hits and an RBI and sophomore Kristin Schultz (Laurys Station, PA/Parkland) totaled three hits in the win.

In the second game, DSU took a 1-0 lead in the first inning as junior Kerri Andrews (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) scored on a two-out error. The Red Hawks tied the game in the second inning, scoring on one of the five DSU errors on the afternoon. DeSales regained the lead with an unearned run in the third inning but once again Montclair tied it with another unearned run in their half of the third frame.

Both teams went scoreless until the eighth inning when the Bulldogs scored twice. Schultz plated fellow sophomore Kate Steiner (Walnutport, PA/Northampton) with an RBI single and on the play Schultz was caught in a rundown and before she was tagged out senior Kelly Moran (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) scampered home for an important fourth run of the game.

Lococo retired the Red Hawks in order in the bottom of the inning to earn her fifth win of the season. She scattered seven hits over eight innings, striking out six and allowing just two unearned runs. DSU had just four hits with Andrews scoring twice and Schultz recording the only RBI in the win.

The Bulldogs return to action tomorrow afternoon as they return to Freedom Conference play with a doubleheader vs. King's College at home beginning at 1:00 pm.
