Center Valley, PA (April 16, 2009) – The DeSales University softball returned to action for the first time in a week and showed very little signs of rust, sweeping a non-conference doubleheader with a pair of eight-run shortened games wins over Elizabethtown College on a perfect Thursday afternoon.

DeSales took game one, 10-2, fighting back after they had trailed 2-0 entering the bottom of the third inning and finished off the sweep with a 9-0 win in the second game. The Bulldogs are now 20-10 overall and record 20+ wins for just the fourth time in school history and the second straight season. The Blue Jays fall to 9-21 overall with the two losses.

In the first game, freshman Katie Morrissey (Lanoka Harbor, NJ/Lacey Township) earned her 11th win of the season, as she went the distance allowing just four hits and two runs, while striking out seven. DSU scored four times in the third inning, once in the fifth, and five times in the sixth to earn the 10-2 win. Sophomore Kate Steiner (Walnutport, PA/Northampton) ended the game with a two-run inside-the-park home run to right-field, her second dinger of the season.

Senior Jamie Pfitzenmayer (Annandale, NJ/Hunterdon Central) went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, junior Kerri Andrews (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) was 1-for-3 with three runs scored, senior Amanda Kensecki (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) had two hits, two runs, and two RBI's, sophomore Jen Lococo (Easton, PA/Freedom) had three hits and an RBI, and Steiner finished with two hits and two RBI's in the game one win.

In the second game, Lococo fired her second shutout of the season, allowing just two hits and striking out six over five innings of work. The DSU offense started early this game, scoring seven times in the first inning and once in both the second and fourth frames to provide the final margin.

Piftzenmayer had two more hits and scored once and drove in one run. Kensecki was 3-for-3 with an RBI, Lococo had two more hits and an RBI, Steiner scored twice, senior Kelly Moran (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) had one hit and a run scored to keep her four-game hit streak alive, and senior Kristin Schultz (Laurys Station, PA/Parkland) finished game two 2-for-2 with three RBI's and a run scored.

The Bulldogs return to action on Sunday, April 19th when they return to Freedom Conference action hosting FDU-Florham in a doubleheader beginning at Noon. For those unable to attend you can follow the game's progress via LIVE Stats at the following link – CLICK HERE.
