Reading, PA (April 5, 2009) – Sophomore Jen Lococo (Easton, PA/Freedom) tossed her first complete-game shutout of the season and added two hits in game two leading the DeSales University softball team to an important doubleheader sweep of Alvernia University in Freedom Conference action on Sunday afternoon.

The Bulldogs improve to 17-9 overall and 8-4 in the Freedom with the sweep, while the Crusaders fall to 9-14 overall and 1-7 in the Freedom. DSU took game one 4-3, scoring three times in the fourth and once in the fifth inning, erasing a 1-0 deficit. In the second game Lococo fired a seven-hit shutout, striking out six to lead the Bulldogs to a 3-0 game two win.

In the doubleheader opener freshman Katie Morrissey (Lanoka Harbor, NJ/Lacey Township) recorded her ninth win of the season allowing two earned runs over seven innings and striking out 11. DSU scored three times in the fourth, trailing 1-0, thanks to an RBI double from sophomore Kate Steiner (Walnutport, PA/Northampton), an RBI double from senior Kelly Moran (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) and an RBI single from sophomore Kyra Monarek (Allentown, PA/Parkland).

In the fifth, DSU added another run on a sacrifice fly from Lococo plating senior Jamie Pfitzenmayer (Annandale, NJ/Hunterdon Central). Senior Amanda Kensecki (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) finished with three hits and a run scored and Monarek had two hits and an RBI in the win.

In the second game it was all Lococo as she scattered seven hits over seven innings and struck out six without walking a batter for her first shutout of the season. She also had two hits and scored once to lead the bat attack. DSU opened up a 1-0 lead in the second inning when sophomore Kristin Schultz (Laurys Station, PA/Parkland) plated Steiner with an RBI single. The Bulldogs added two more runs in the fourth when Schultz had another RBI single and DeSales took advantage of three Alvernia errors to plate a second run.

Lococo wins her seventh game of the season. Schultz also had two hits in game two and Pfitzenmayer kept her hitting streak alive with a triple in the third inning.

The Bulldogs will return to action on Thursday, April 9th when they host Rutgers-Camden in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 3:00 pm.
