Softball Drops a Pair at Kean, 4-3 and 7-2

Union, NJ (March 28, 2010) – The DeSales University softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon falling 4-3 (8 innings) and 7-2 at Kean University in non-conference action in Union, NJ.

In the first game, DSU (10-8 overall) was unable to push across a run as the two teams used the international tiebreaking rule in the eighth inning and Kean (10-4 overall) was able to get one run to cross home plate in the bottom of the eighth inning to record the win.

DSU had led 2-0 in the top of the second inning when senior Kristen Cybularz (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Carroll) hit her first career home run, a two-run shot with no one out. Kean took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the inning before the Bulldogs tied the score at three in the third on an RBI single from junior Kate Steiner (Walnutport, PA/Northampton) setting up the eighth inning.

Sophomore Christine Petrilla (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) took the loss pitching 1.1 innings of relief of sophomore Katie Morrissey (Lanoka Harbor, NJ/Lacey Township) who went six innings allowing three runs and striking out eight. Petrilla and junior Kristin Schultz (Laurys Station, PA/Parkland) each had two hits in the game one loss.

In the second game, Kean jumped all over the Bulldogs with five runs in the third inning before DeSales was finally able to get on the board with solo runs in the sixth and seventh innings. Junior Jen Lococo (Easton, PA/Freedom) was saddled with the loss, but she did go 3-for-3 at the plate with her fourth home run in the last four games and two RBI's.

The Bulldogs will return to action on Tuesday, March 30th when they travel cross-town to take on local rival Moravian College in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 3:00 pm.
