Center Valley, PA (April 10, 2010) – The DeSales University softball team split its third straight doubleheader winning game one, 11-4, before dropping the second game, 6-1, to visiting Eastern University in a Freedom Conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.
The Bulldogs (13-11, 6-2 Freedom) used two big innings in game one, a five-run third and a six-run sixth inning to pull away from the Eagles (9-16, 2-6 Freedom). In the five run third, sophomore Christine Petrilla (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) and junior Kristin Schultz (Laurys Station, PA/Parkland) hit back-to-back home runs to lead the way.
Sophomore Katie Morrissey (Lanoka Harbor, NJ/Lacey Township) earned her team-leading sixth win of the season in the game one win, lasting six innings allowing just three hits and four runs, striking out six. Senior Kerri Andrews (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) led the way offensively with three hits and two runs scored, Petrilla had three hits and three RBIs, and senior Emily Hoffman (Laceyville, PA/Wyalusing Valley) had two hits and scored twice.
In the second game, Eastern scored three times in the first inning and the Bulldogs gave up three unearned runs and were unable to catch the Eagles in a 6-1 loss. Junior Jen Lococo (Easton, PA/Freedom) took the loss allowing nine hits and three earned runs over five innings, striking out five. Andrews and Lococo each had two hits as part of a six-hit attack. Petrilla pitched well in relief allowing just three hits and no runs over two innings of work.
The Bulldogs return to action on Sunday afternoon when they travel to York College for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 1:00 pm. LIVE Stats will be available for those unable to attend the game.
