Elizabethtown, PA (April 14, 2010) – The DeSales University softball team saw its losing streak extend to five games on Wednesday afternoon as the Bulldogs dropped both ends of a non-conference doubleheader at Elizabethtown College, 7-3 and 4-1.

DeSales (13-15 overall) fell behind early in both games. In the opener, the Blue Jays (14-7-1 overall) scored once in the first and five times in the second inning to take a 6-0 lead. DSU scored one time in fourth, fifth, and sixth innings but it was not enough.

Sophomore Katie Morrissey (Lanoka Harbor, NJ/Lacey Township) suffered the loss lasting just 1.1 innings allowing just two hits, but walking six and surrendering five runs. Sophomore Christine Petrilla (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) had three hits (two doubles) and knocked in one run, junior Kristin Schultz (Laurys Station, PA/Parkland) had two hits and seniors Kristen Cybularz (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Carroll) and Kerri Andrews (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) each had one hit and one RBI in the game one loss.

In game two, the Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead scoring an unearned run in the top of the first inning but managed just three base-runners the rest of the game, none of which moved past first base as the Blue Jays scored twice in the first and third innings to earn the sweep.

Andrews had two of the three DSU hits and scored the lone run. Junior Kate Steiner (Walnutport, PA/Northampton) also had a hit. Junior Jen Lococo (Easton, PA/Freedom) took the loss allowing three earned runs over three innings of work. Petrilla pitched well in relief allowing just three hits and no runs over the final three innings.

The Bulldogs will look to get back into the win column when they travel to Misericordia University for a very important Freedom Conference doubleheader on Sunday beginning at 1:00 pm.
