Bulldogs Split DH at Widener with Four-Run Sixth Inning in Game Two

Chester, PA (April 8, 2010) – The DeSales University softball team salvaged a split in its non-conference doubleheader at Widener University on Thursday afternoon, scoring four runs in the top of the sixth inning in game two to come from behind for a 6-5 win in the nightcap after dropping the opener, 7-1.

In the opener the Pride (16-8 overall) broke open a scoreless game in the third inning with five runs and never looked back in the six-run game one win. DSU (12-10 overall) got on the board in the fourth inning on RBI single from senior Kristen Cybularz (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Carroll) and senior Kerri Andrews (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) had two of DSU's seven hits.

Sophomore Katie Morrissey (Lanoka Harbor, NJ/Lacey Township) took the loss, lasting just 2.2 innings allowing five hits and five runs.

In the second game the Bulldogs fell behind 4-2 and continued to trail by two runs entering the sixth inning when they exploded for four runs to take a 6-4 lead. Four different players had RBIs during the rally including junior Kate Steiner (Walnutport, PA/Northampton), sophomore Shelly McCarthy (Allentown, PA/Bethlehem Catholic), and sophomore Brianna Chilcoat (Northampton, PA/Northampton) each had RBI singles and Andrews knocked in the sixth run with a sacrifice fly.

Sophomore Christine Petrilla (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) earned the win relief allowing just one unearned run over the final three innings, striking out one. Andrews, junior Jen Lococo (Easton, PA/Freedom), junior Kristin Schultz (Laurys Station, PA/Parkland), and McCarthy all had two hits in the game two win.

DSU returns to action on Saturday when they host Eastern University in a Freedom Conference doubleheader beginning at 1:00 pm.
