BOX SCORE
Doylestown, PA (May 8, 2010) – In a game tied at one thru six innings, Misericordia University exploded for 10 runs in the top of the seventh inning eliminating the DeSales University softball team from the Freedom Conference playoffs in an 11-1 loss on Saturday afternoon at Delaware Valley College.
The Bulldogs (24-19 overall) season comes to a close with the loss barring a possible selection into the ECAC South Region Tournament which will be announced on Monday afternoon.
On Saturday, DSU took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning when junior Kristin Schultz (Laurys Station, PA/Parkland) singled and came around to score on a Cougar error. On Friday, the Bulldogs faced MU's Kat Lucenti in the first game of the Freedom Conference playoffs and pounded her for 12 hits and 10 runs en route to a 10-4 win, but on Saturday Lucenti had her revenge.
After that single from Schultz in the second inning, DSU was unable to record a hit and had just three base-runners the rest of the game.
The Cougars came to the plate in the seventh inning also with just one hit thru the first six frames. After a fly out to start the seventh, a walk was followed by three straight hits, a couple of misplays in the field by the Bulldogs and then the big blow, a grand slam home run from Caitlen Cromley putting the final touches on a five-hit, 10-run explosion that ended DSU's championship hopes.
Sophomore Katie Morrissey (Lanoka Harbor, NJ/Lacey Township) took the loss allowing five of the 11 runs on four hits and striking out five. She falls to 8-9 on the season. Schultz had the lone hit and run scored offensively for DeSales.
